1.Founding Story & Vision

Q: What inspired you to start COHIIRE? Was there a personal experience or
gap in leadership access that motivated you
Ans: The idea of COHIIRE began as a lived reality, not a business plan.
While leading marketing and communications at Tata Power Solar in 2014,
I often found myself informally advising founders. Many of them were first
timers who had just raised seed capital. They were sharp, driven, and
building things that mattered. But they lacked access to senior minds
who could help them scale smartly. I helped where I could, pro bono,
because I was still in a full-time role.
What struck me over time was this: they could reach me because they
happened to know me. But what about the many others who didn’t have
that luxury? Who would help them think strategically when every decision
carried weight, but every rupee was accounted for?
That question stayed with me. I knew there were professionals with the
right experience and intent, people who could step in, solve, and step out.
But there was no structured way to connect them with companies that
truly needed them.
That’s when the idea of COHIIRE took shape, and I began experimenting
with the concept of fractional leadership. I decided to quit my job to
become a fractional CMO to experience firsthand what it truly takes to
succeed as a fractional expert, rather than a full-time employee.
After working for almost two years as a fractional CMO, I decided to create
a professional platform where companies can engage with fractional
leaders across any business domains.
COHIIRE became a platform to make leadership more accessible, less
transactional, and infinitely more contextual. I left my job to see if this
model could serve the companies building India’s future. And every day
since, I’ve seen proof that it can.

Q: How does COHIIRE differ from traditional hiring models and talent
platforms?
Ans: COHIIRE was never meant to be about hiring or recruitment. That's a
completely different space.
Our focus is fundamentally different. Traditional models are built around
filling permanent positions. They look for candidates to occupy a role for
years.
COHIIRE exists because many growing companies, especially MSMEs and
SMEs, face specific, high-stakes challenges that don't need a full-time
executive, but desperately need executive-level thinking right now.
Think about a growing company needing to break into a new
international market, or facing a critical product pivot, or preparing for
a major funding round. These aren't about job descriptions; they're about
finding someone who's done this exact thing before and can parachute in
to solve it. We connect those companies with proven fractional CXOs
who bring deep, relevant experience for that specific mission.
It's all about precise problem-solving. It's not always about permanent
placement.

Q: What’s the core mission behind COHIIRE, and how do you see it evolving
in the next 5 years?
Ans: Our mission is straightforward: make top-tier strategic leadership
accessible in the shortest possible time to any ambitious company that
needs it, without the long-term commitment or cost of a full-time hire.
Why should a growing organization in a Tier-2 city like Jaipur struggle
alone when it can tap into the same level of expertise available to firms in
New York, Bangalore or Mumbai, just for the critical phase it is in? That
principle guides everything we do.
Looking ahead five years, I see COHIIRE becoming the natural first call for
companies facing complex growth hurdles. We're developing deeper
capabilities – think specialized groups of flexi leaders focused on
particular industries or challenges, smarter ways to match context and
expertise, and even supporting companies with fractional board
members or CEOs.
Our evolution is getting bigger and becoming more effective at connecting
the right leadership brainpower to the right business problem, exactly
when it matters most.

2. Redefining How Companies Access Leadership

Q: Businesses often struggle with long, rigid hiring cycles. How is COHIIRE
enabling faster, more agile leadership solutions?
Ans: Those long cycles are exactly the problem we endeavor to solve.
When a company is stuck – maybe their go-to-market strategy isn't
working, or their supply chain is buckling under growth, or investors are
getting restless – they don't have months to run a search. The cost of
delay is huge.
COHIIRE works because we start with the problem, not the resume pile.
We sit down, understand the specific challenge deeply, and then ask:
"Who has successfully navigated this exact type of situation before?"
Speed here isn't about cutting corners. It's more about cutting out
everything irrelevant, so the solution arrives when it's actually useful.

Q: How does AI and automation play a role in COHIIRE’s approach?
Ans: We use technology smartly to support our core work, which is
deeply human.
Our systems help us analyze patterns, like looking at a leader's past
projects, the kinds of business environments they excel in, their specific
domain strengths, and even subtle indicators of how they might fit a
particular company culture.
This helps us narrow down potential matches efficiently. But
technology can't grasp the full picture. It can't feel the urgency in a
founder's voice or understand the unique dynamics of a team.
The final decision, that crucial match between an interim leader's
capability and a company's specific need and culture, always relies on
human judgment and conversation. AI gives us a good starting point;
people make the right connection.

Q: What’s the biggest misconception companies have about engaging
fractional or on-demand leadership, and how does COHIIRE address it?
Ans: The biggest misconception? Many believe fractional leadership is a
diluted form of full-time engagement.
In fact, the opposite is often true. A fractional CXO isn't spread thin across
endless meetings; they are intensely focused on delivering a specific,

pre-agreed outcome for your critical challenge. They bring concentrated
expertise and an outsider's objectivity precisely because they aren't
buried in day-to-day operations.
At COHIIRE, we ensure clarity from the start. We define the mission, the
desired impact, and the scope very clearly with both the company and the
leader.
Success is measured by the problem solved and the progress made,
not by hours logged at a desk. It's about high-impact, targeted
leadership.

3. Challenges & Lessons Learned

Q: What was the toughest obstacle you faced while building COHIIRE, and
how did you overcome it?
Ans: Building trust in a completely new concept was easily the hardest
part.
When I launched, the idea of a fractional CXO wasn't widely understood
or accepted in India. People were skeptical. Would seasoned executives
really take on these assignment-based roles? Would companies,
especially established ones, trust someone coming in part-time at a
leadership level?
Talking about the theory wasn't enough. We had to prove it worked.
So, I focused relentlessly on delivering undeniable results with the early
clients. Whether it was helping a traditional retailer navigate digital
transformation or guiding a financial services company through a difficult
turnaround, I made sure those assignments succeeded.
Those tangible results, those real stories of problems solved and value
delivered, established our credibility. Seeing is believing, and those
successes built the momentum needed.

Q: Have there been any unexpected insights from working closely with
experienced CXOs across diverse sectors?
Ans: Absolutely, two things stand out.

1.I've been consistently surprised by how many highly accomplished
fractional leaders find real satisfaction in these focused, high-
impact assignments. We have flexi CXOs who've led massive global
teams who now choose projects with smaller, purpose-driven
companies because they see a chance to make a direct, meaningful
difference.
2.The power of cross-pollination is incredible. Putting an interim CXO
with deep manufacturing experience into a SaaS company
struggling with customer retention might sound odd, but it often
sparks unique and highly effective solutions. These leaders bring
fresh perspectives unconstrained by industry norms, and the
results can be remarkable.

Q: When connecting companies with leadership on-demand, how do you
ensure alignment in values, goals, and culture?
Ans: This is where our process gets deep. It's not just about the business
problems listed on paper.
Let me paint you a picture:
We spend significant time understanding the company's personality, like
the founder's vision and working style, the team dynamics, the
unspoken rules, and the pressure points. What's the real atmosphere
like? What can the organization realistically absorb right now? We listen
carefully, not just to what's said, but to what's implied.
For the fractional leader, we look beyond their resume to understand
their working style, motivations, and how they build relationships. The
match only happens when we feel confident there's a genuine fit on both
sides, when the leader can solve the problem and work effectively with
that specific team at that specific moment.
It's about resonance as much as relevance.

4. Future of Work & Leadership Trends

Q: How do you see remote work and gig economy trends shaping
COHIIRE’s strategy?

Ans: Remote work and flexible engagements aren't just trends for us;
they're foundational to the COHIIRE model from day one.
In fact, we were among the first in India to advocate a hybrid model of
working as early as 2017 (before COVID-19), and now the world
recognizes its efficacy.
The shift toward valuing outcomes over physical presence reinforces
our core belief: leadership impact isn’t tied to a specific desk. This change
has made companies more open than ever to accessing expertise
wherever it resides.

For COHIIRE, it reinforces our ability to connect growing companies
anywhere in India (or beyond) with the perfect fractional leader,
regardless of geography.
We design solutions meant to deliver results across distances and time
zones. The focus stays squarely on solving the problem, not sharing an
office.

Q: What skills do you believe will be most in demand in the next decade,
and how is COHIIRE preparing for that shift?
Ans: I’ve been paying close attention to how the skill landscape is shifting,
and it’s clear that what got us here won’t carry us forward.
As AI continues to evolve rapidly, many traditional competencies will
lose relevance. The next decade will belong to professionals who build new
capabilities and adapt to machines that learn faster than we do.
∙The first major shift I see is the rise of AI fluency. This won’t be
limited to tech teams. Business leaders across functions will need to
understand how AI works, not at a coding level, but enough to make
informed decisions, ask the right questions, and identify
opportunities in what the data reveals.
∙The second skill is data storytelling. It’s no longer enough to collect
or even analyze data. What will matter is how well you can translate
complexity into action.
∙And the third, often underestimated, is emotional intelligence. As
machines take over more technical and transactional tasks, soft
skills will continue to take center stage. Leaders who can build
trust, read the room, resolve tension, and lead with empathy will

become even more valuable, especially in high-pressure or hybrid
environments where human connection is harder to maintain.
In the coming years, I believe that access to the right leadership, not just
availability, will define advantage.
At COHIIRE, we’re preparing for this shift by building an interim
leadership bench that companies can access on demand.
As demand grows for leaders with these emerging skills, many fast-scaling
businesses will find it difficult to bring the right people in quickly,
especially for short-term or transition-stage needs. That’s exactly the
gap we’re solving.
Our platform connects growing companies with fractional CXOs who
bring the same depth of experience you’d expect from Fortune 500
leaders, without the lead time, long-term cost, or rigid structures.
We’re not building a database. We’re building access: to readiness, to
expertise, and to people who can lead from day one.

Q: With increasing tech intervention in talent decisions, where do you see
the balance between human judgment and automation?
Ans: Technology is a powerful tool for efficiency. It can help surface
potential matches based on data points much faster than manual searches.
But leadership, especially at the CXO level and especially in a fractional,
high-impact context, is deeply human.
Data might suggest two profiles are compatible on paper, but it can't
capture the chemistry between people, the shared understanding that
clicks in a conversation, or the intuitive trust a founder needs to have in
someone guiding their company through a critical phase.
At COHIIRE, technology handles the initial heavy lifting, but the final, most
important decisions – who partners with whom on these significant
challenges – will always rest on careful human judgment and personal
connection.
You can't automate trust.

5. Personal Leadership & Entrepreneurial Insights

Q: What’s your leadership philosophy when building and managing a fast-
growing startup?
Ans: My approach centers on clarity and empowerment. I set clear
direction and boundaries, but I avoid micromanaging at all costs. I believe
in building a strong structure and getting talented people, then giving
them the space and trust to own their roles and make decisions.
I believe real leaders stand by their team not just when things go right,
but especially when they don’t. I make it a point to live by that philosophy
every day.
Real leadership, to me, is about creating an environment where the team
can operate effectively and grow, even without my direct involvement in
day-to-day operations.
The goal is a team that runs smoothly, allowing me to focus on the bigger
picture and where COHIIRE needs to go next.

Q: How do you balance innovation with execution in a competitive space
like HR tech?
Ans: It's important to clarify: COHIIRE doesn't see itself as an HR tech
company. We're focused squarely on business acceleration through
Fractional or Interim leadership. That focus gives me a clear lens for
making decisions.
In fact, this concept of Fractional Leadership is genuinely innovative for
India and COHIIRE has pioneered it for the past eight years and counting.
New ideas and innovations are exciting, for sure. But every potential new
feature or direction gets tested against one simple, critical question: "Will
this make it easier and faster for a company to connect with the right
leadership expertise to overcome their immediate growth hurdle?" If
the answer isn't a clear yes, if it doesn't directly reduce the friction
between a problem and its solution, we don't pursue it.
Execution that delivers real results for our clients is always the
priority.

Q: What advice would you offer to entrepreneurs looking to solve large-
scale business challenges through new-age models like fractional
leadership?

Ans: My key advice is this: Focus on solving a real, tangible problem
first. Prove your model delivers undeniable value on a smaller scale before
worrying about massive growth.
For fractional leadership, this means showing concrete results. Don't
spend all your energy explaining the theoretical benefits; instead, make
sure your first few engagements are clear successes for the clients. Did
the fractional leader actually solve the critical problem? Did the
company see real progress?
One powerful success story, where the value is obvious and measurable,
will open far more doors than any pitch deck. Clarity about what you solve,
and consistent delivery of that solution will build a sustainable business
much faster than chasing novelty or scale without proof.

6. Rapid-Fire Round

Q: One book/podcast that influenced your thinking?
Ans: One podcast that truly shaped my thinking is “WTF is” by Nikhil
Kamath. I love how it combines honest curiosity with deep research.
Kamath asks simple questions that uncover thoughtful insights from guests
across AI, e-commerce, urban issues, sustainability, and more.

Q: If you weren’t running COHIIRE, what would you be doing?
Ans: In all probability, I would have still been employed at a large
organization, caught in the rat race, far from building something that truly
mattered to me.

Q: Best and worst hiring decision you’ve ever made?
Ans: Best: Bringing someone incredibly sharp and insightful who also had
zero ego – they just focused on getting the right result.
Worst: Getting influenced by someone higher in hierarchy to recruit a
person into my team, just because they recommended it, without trusting
my own judgment.
